The Blue Boar
About This Spot
Stepping into The Blue Boar in Ludlow feels like slipping into a well-loved corner of town where warmth and conviviality come naturally. This is a place that gently hums with friendly chatter and the comforting clink of glasses, an inviting mix of a timeless British pub and a neighborhood bar with subtle nods to international flair. Whether it’s the soft glow from the log burner or the easy flow of conversation that fills the air, The Blue Boar strikes a balance between lively and relaxed without ever rushing its guests.
The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious, making it equally suited for a quiet afternoon flat white or a bustling evening gathering. As you settle in, the hum of laughter blends effortlessly with the well-curated soundtrack, while the attentive staff mirror the hospitality you’d hope to find in a community spot that takes pride in its roots.
Food here feels deeply connected to both tradition and local character—comforting plates arrive with a hearty sense of familiarity but with unexpected touches that keep the menu engaging. The bar’s selection reflects a thoughtful embrace of both classic British flavors and hints of the Mediterranean, with dishes that invite sharing and savoring, whether you’re unwinding with a well-poured local IPA or complementing a Sunday roast with seasonal vegetable sides in a relaxed, communal setting.
Even for those visiting with family (or furry companions), The Blue Boar offers a sense of ease and belonging. The well-considered layout includes cozy spots near the fire as well as lively areas that buzz with energy but never overwhelm. It’s a place where moments are savored—a catch-up with friends, a spontaneous walk-in for a late lunch, or a weekend evening spent discovering new favorites at the bar.
In essence, The Blue Boar isn’t just a place to eat and drink, but a quietly vibrant meeting point where the everyday feels a little more special through thoughtful hospitality and a true sense of place.

Booked an evening meal here on the Supper Club night (currently Wednesday). Three courses for £24.50! Food was very enjoyable, with friendly and efficient service. Recommended!

We booked a table for 6 plus a dog for a pre-Christmas get together and Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. The staff were all very attentive and helpful and we were sat in the ‘dog friendly’ area in the bar which was great and next to the log burner. The atmosphere in there was cosy and lively as everyone was enjoying tucking into some great food or enjoying drinks. I have to admit that I’m a sucker for a proper pub - one that has bags of character, charm, history, a good reputation, quality food and above all quality real ale! This pub has it all, which is why we booked. Booking ahead is recommended as it’s busy. There was an excellent choice of beers/lagers on the bar and an impressive selection of 4 real ales on the hand pumps, showcasing local breweries and a seasonal guest ale. The seasonal menu was extensive with almost too much choice, which is a good thing really, especially if there are fussy eaters in your party. Everybody was truly satisfied with their lunches, the food was delicious and exactly what we had wanted! We will come back again and again.

Beautiful pub and very good food. We were lucky to walk-in and find a table for two for a late lunch, around 2pm, as it was packed. However, it being a popular spot and a market day in Ludlow, we waited a long time to recieve our meals, as the kitchen was backed up with orders before ours. (Long enough for me to walk to my car, parked at Tesco, and move it closer by, thankfully!) We ordered the (vegetarian option) Wild Mushroom Bourguignon pie, and Venison (not vegetarian by any means), both came with potatoes, roasted root vegetables and delicious gravies. The wait staff were very friendly and accommodating of our needs. Tables were set with candles, and the interior was very cosy in general. A pleasant experience, one I'd repeat.

As a special treat for after Christmas we decided to try The Blue Boar for a family meal . 6 of us and a 16 month old. The welcome we all got and the lovely atmosphere put us at ease right away and the high chair was ready and waiting for our little grandson. We were seen to as soon as we were seated, drinks order was taken, shortly after the meal was ordered. Very impressed we were asked about allergies. We were approached to ask if we wanted more drinks while we waited. The starters arrived quickly .. delicious! As we were chatting and all done plates were collected. The main course just as delicious arrived right after the table was cleared. With fresh cutlery! (Well done !) More drinks were ordered and we ordered dessert OMG! Just lovely! What a gorgeous meal, set in a wonderful pub in an idyllic location. All staff members we met were polite and attentive, nothing was too much trouble.. Brilliant place . We will return , even though we travel 4 hours to get here from Dagenham Essex! Excellent. Well done The Blue Boar. Thank you.

Ate here for lunch and evening meal on a couple of occasions, the club sandwich was delicious, open steak sandwich the meat was cooked to perfection, the venison duo wouldn't have been out of place in a fine dining restaurant! All in a cosy historic pub atmosphere
